The visit of the foundation Pescadores de Letras leads us to the small fishing village La Boquilla, the home of many families with African origins.
Our visit of the foundation Pescadores de Letras is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the school system in Colombia and to get to know an extraordinary project within this socially weak suburb of the city. The school is one of the most successful projects in the educational and social sector. Nowadays they take care of more than 125 children from La Boquilla. The children receive breakfast, lunch and education. The monthly fee is symbolic and the working groups in the afternoon are well known in Cartagena.
Our visit includes a presentation of the project, an interaction with the children, a conversation with the school psychologist (if requested), as well as the visit of the facilities. Moreover we get the opportunity to discuss the situation of the poorer population in Cartagena with the team. The foundation is not only a shelter for children, the families are also invited to the meetings in order to involve all family members.
